In March's edition of 'Home and Antiques Magazine' (BBC) there's an article on 'charming Ladybird Books'. It's subtitled Instant Expert and has been put together by Antiques Roadshow presenter Katherine Higgins - with a little help from a few Ladybods including myself.
Lots of lovely, retro images of lovely retro Ladybird Books (most of which came from my own shelf via Royal Mail to the magazine 'stylist' - and back again).

I read this article recently and it was quite interesting to know that these books have become so popular - The book The Impatient Horse has been sleeping in my mother's bookshelf for the past 40 years and is gifted by the author to her. She also has what would appear to be two older Ladybird books in French, Le Secret and Le Cirque - are these worth anything? They're in good condition with dust covers. I visited a couple of Ladybird websites to try and find out about these French books but there was nothing regarding collectors prices - the person who runs Wee Web offered me £450 for the two French books but if he's offering that as a dealer then what are they really worth? Anyone know? Thanks, Tom
Hi Tom
What two fab books! Yes, super rare. I've only seen Le Cirque before.
I would think that £450 is a good offer - but try another dealer if you're not sure. I'd suggest Stella & Rose based in Hay on Wye. You'll find their website on Google. If they make you an offer too you can take your pick - but £450 is fair, I'd have said.
Have checked out the BBC Homes and Antiques and thought the collages were really well done. Good that realistic prices were included as most old LB books are still really cheap to buy i.e about £2. It's no good people imagining that they are all worth money. However, the article didn't make much of condition which is obviously very important to their value especially as so many have been literally loved to pieces!
Very true, Tim
So pleased you all enjoyed my focus. I have such fond memories of Ladybird books hence my enthusiasm. I must say a big thank you to all those who helped... Just wish I could have had the whole magazine to expand a bit more... Long live Ladybird titles. Best - Katherine
Here here! Katherine. A whole magazine dedicated to old Ladybird Books. You won't find many gainsayers around these parts!
